Helena Bowulo, 34, is one about 15 young women in the Maimu displaced persons camp in Bong County, Liberia, receiving scholarships from the International Rescue Committee to complete the 10th, 11th or 12th grade. The IRC is partnering with the International Alliance for Women (TIAW) on the program to increase the high school retention rate among Liberian women.

“If I didn’t receive this scholarship I never would have considered completing my high school education. I lost my parents during the war and I am the only one helping my little brothers and sister,” says Helena, an 11th grade student at Maimu Central High School. Helena is also the mother of two children of her own.
